Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisan is to be Thailand's prime minister in place of Yingluck Shinawatra, who was forced to step down by the Constitutional Court on Wednesday along with several ministers after being found guilty of violating the constitution.
"The cabinet has decided that Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisan will carry out duties in place of Prime Minister Yingluck," Justice Minister Pongthep Thepkanjana told a news conference.

Twenty-three people were injured when a fire and a series of explosions struck a Philippine army munitions depot near the country's financial district Wednesday, officials and witnesses said.
Local television footage showed uniformed soldiers carrying some of the injured on stretchers away from a burning building enveloped in black smoke, while three other victims sat on the pavement awaiting medical help.

South Korea's prime minister on Wednesday called for searches for people believed trapped inside a sunken ferry to be completed by the weekend.
More than 30 people are listed as missing three weeks after the Sewol carrying 476 people sank off South Korea's south coast. Slow searches have deepened the anguish of families of missing people, who have been camping out at a nearby port waiting for news of their loved ones. About 270 dead bodies have been recovered. Only 174 survived.
