Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums ended mostly higher in the second bidding for May, according to data from the Land Transport Authority on Wednesday.

The premium for big cars, those above 1,600cc, dipped slightly to $68,103, which is lower than the previous $70,002.

Political blogger Roy Ngerng on Wednesday morning announced a surprise bid for a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) position.

Taking to his Facebook page, the 33-year-old healthcare programme co-ordinator posted a picture of himself holding his proposal outside Parliament House, saying, "Looking forward to representing the voices of Singaporeans in Parliament. If I get selected!"

US search engine Google has overtaken rival technology titan Apple as the world's top brand in terms of value, global market research agency Millward Brown said Wednesday.

Google's brand value shot up 40 percent in a year to S$199.04 billion (US$158.84), Millward Brown said in its 2014 100 Top BrandZ report.

An Egyptian court on Wednesday sentenced ousted president Hosni Mubarak to three years in prison on charges of stealing public funds.

The court fined Mubarak and his sons 21.197 million Egyptian pounds (1.76 million pounds) and ordered them to repay about 125 million Egyptian pounds of funds the court said they had stolen.

Malaysia welcomed on Wednesday giant pandas Feng Yi and Fu Wa, which arrived via a special MASKargo A330 aircraft about 8am.

The pair is on loan from China for 10 years. Fu Wa and Feng Yi will be quarantined for 30 days before they go on display in Zoo Negara.
