Viral video reminds the world to look up from their gadgets

By Nurul Azliah Aripin | What's buzzing? –

People should look up from their gadgets and re-learn to co-exist, according to British writer and director Gary Turk in his spoken word film that has achieved widespread viral success since being uploaded on YouTube on 25 April.

Today, this meaningful video entitled "Look Up" has garnered over 20 million views and over 10,000 comments mainly by people who share the same sentiment as him.

The 4 minute 58 second video, which was done last year according to his tweet, explores the irony of social media platforms and how they have spawned a trend of reclusiveness and being anti-social.

"We're becoming unsocial. It no longer satisfies to engage with one another and look into someone's eyes… We're a generation of idiots, smart phones and dumb people," the video says at one point.

It seems the man has hit it right on the nail when addressing this rising social epidemic as gadgets and social media platforms slowly begin to replace human interaction.
