A Sri Lankan Tamil asylum-seeker has died after setting himself on fire while awaiting a visa decision in Australia, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison said Monday.

Leorsin Seemanpillai, 29, after being granted a temporary visa a year ago, suffered burns to 90 percent of his body after the incident on Saturday morning.

The two batches of Cadbury chocolate products previously found tainted with porcine DNA have now been declared halal for Muslim consumption, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) announced on Monday.

The minister in charge of Islamic religious affairs in Malaysia said 11 samples of the confectionary giant's Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut and the Cadbury Dairy Milk Roast Almond were sent straight from the factory to a special accredited laboratory for testing. However, no pig DNA was found in the samples.

The military junta running Thailand has drawn up a list of emergency measures such as price caps on fuel and loan guarantees for small firms to kick-start an economy threatened by recession after months of political turmoil.

The plans take in longer-term measures such as the development of special economic zones on the borders with Myanmar, Laos and Malaysia.

Japan on Monday began test broadcasts of satellite television programmes in 4K, as major firms including Sony and Sharp bet on the super high-definition technology to rescue their embattled TV units.

The technology has four times the resolution of standard high-definition televisions, but high prices have so far limited commercial sales of 4K-equipped televisions.
