Prime residential property prices in Singapore saw the sharpest decline over the past year out of the 32 cities profiled in Knight Frank's latest Prime global Cities Index.

Prices fell 7.7 percent in the 12 months to June 14, the index showed, with much of the declines taking place recently as Singapore prices fell 6.4 percent in the three months to June 14.

The World Health Organization on Friday declared the Ebola outbreak in West Africa to be an international public health emergency that requires an extraordinary response to stop its spread.

The WHO announced the Ebola outbreak — the largest and longest in history — is worrying enough to merit being declared an international health emergency. WHO declared similar emergencies for the swine flu pandemic in 2009 and for polio in May.

The Singapore government reported this week that the nation's income inequality gap narrowed, but workers at the lower end of the spectrum are still struggling to make ends meet.

The Ministry of Finance said a steady increase in the real incomes of low and middle income Singaporeans over the past five years at the individual and household level, together with the strengthening of social safety nets and greater progress in government taxes and transfers has helped narrow the gap.
