New hiring rules favouring Singaporeans kicked in Friday as part of measures aimed at addressing citizens' complaints about foreigners stealing jobs from them.

Singapore-based companies needing professional workers now have to advertise on an online "Jobs Bank" for at least 14 days before they can seek an employment pass for a foreigner.

The new toll rates at Johor's Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) started on Friday. The rates are RM9.70 (SGD$3.80) and RM6.80 (SGD$2.60) for in-bound and out-bound cars respectively.
